Hypertrophic scars (HS) are thick raised scars that occur when extra connective tissue forms during wound repair. A clinical study evaluated the use of essential oils to reduce the appearance of HS. An essential oil blend containing 1.67% helichrysum, 1% lavender, 1.3% lemongrass, 0.6% patchouli, 0.83% myrrh, and 94.6% carrier oil was applied twice daily for six months. Visible scarring improved based on the participant’s and observer’s evaluation. The research suggests that applying this combination of essential oils and carrier oils for six months can reduce HS.

To approximate the study, add 4 drops of helichrysum, 2 drops of lavender, 3 drops of lemongrass, 1 drop of patchouli, and 2 drops of myrrh to a 10 mL roller bottle and fill the rest with carrier oil.
